Ghana @ 60; Mobilizing for the Future

On such a sovereign and glorious day, “Back to Our Roots” congratulates all Ghanaians on the occasion of our 60th Independence Anniversary. We thank God for the gift of all those who made this possible through their blood and toil.

When Ghana attained independence on the 6th of March 1957, being one of the first African countries to achieve that feat, many were our hopes and prospects of a great future.

Many are those who will question what we have attained all these years to merit a celebration! Our 60th birthday is not a call to retirement but an awakening to duty!

We may not have achieved the aims of our founding fathers and mothers!
We may not be able to compete with nations with whom we attained independence!
We may even be tempted to have a gloomy picture of our future!

Nevertheless, we have a lot to be grateful to God for. All we need to do is to look around us and see.

On this day, may we not only accuse others of what they did wrong or did not do right!
We have accused others enough! It is time to accuse ourselves too!
How much have we ourselves not contributed to where we are now?
How many times haven’t we consciously refused to do the right thing at the right time! Let us be mindful of the fact that any little thing we do affects the nation either negatively or positively!

Let us all resolve today to unite as a people and mobilize our knowledge, resources and talents, and work hard for the prosperous future that our founders dreamed about and hoped for, and which we now yearn to achieve, bearing in mind that when brothers fight themselves, strangers inherit their property!

Together, let us sing…

“Arise Ghana youth for your country
The nation demands your devotion
Let us all unite to uphold her and make her great and strong.

We are all involved (3x)
In building our motherland”.

Once more, Happy Independence Day Anniversary and may God bless our homeland Ghana, and make our nation great and strong!

Let’s meet next week Monday to continue our journey back to our roots when we shall discuss the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation and how to make use of it, especially during this season of grace and repentance.

God bless you!
