Just over a week ago, the Catholic youth of the Diocese of Ho under the leadership of Mr. Bismark Tay, and the patronage of the Bishop, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, together with other people of goodwill, marched through the 3 deanery centres – Ho, Kpando and Hohoe – to draw the attention of all to the need for peace in this year’s general elections in Ghana under the theme above. It was clear from the many placards and various talks that this peace all of us are calling for is not just the duty of some individuals or group of persons but the duty of all.
I wish to dedicate today’s usual catechetical teaching to the call for peace as I share with you a special prayer, which has become known as the “Peace prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.”
May we all pray it fervently as we also do our part to maintain peace and order before, during and after the December 7 elections.
PRAYER OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI
Lord, make me an
instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me
sow love;
where there is injury,
pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness,
light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I
may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to
understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we
receive,
it is in pardoning that we are
pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are
born to eternal life.
Amen.
As Martin Luther King, Jr would say, “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”
Ghana will live!
God bless you as you do your part to work for peace.
